Whether you're new to Classroomscreen or a long-time user, there's always something new to discover! These hidden features and expert tips will help you use the platform more efficiently, save time, and streamline classroom management like never before.

1: Instantly hide your screen from students

Need to momentarily hide your screen from students? Whether it's to conceal upcoming instructions, surprise them with a brain break, or keep them focused, there's a quick fix. This trick keeps students engaged while you prepare the next part of your lesson.

tip:

Press ‘1’ on your keyboard to hide the entire screen instantly - just press any key or click the screen to bring it back.

2: Expand your workspace without losing widgets

A cluttered screen can be overwhelming, especially when using multiple widgets at once. If you need more space without deleting anything. This keeps your workspace organized while allowing you to focus on the most important elements of your lesson.

tip:

Drag widgets off-screen and a button will appear at the edge of the screen, letting you bring the widget back when needed. Need even more space? Just press CNTR + ENTER to create a whole new screen!

3: Use the spotlight feature to direct attention

Sometimes, all it takes is a spotlight to direct attention where it's needed most. The Spotlight setting does just that, allowing you to highlight specific content or areas of interest with ease.

tip:

Just select ‘Spotlight’ in the widget options to expand it, letting it take center stage. Hit ‘Esc’ to shrink it back down again.

4: Pin Widgets across multiple screens

Save time and maintain continuity across lessons by using the Pin feature. Pinned widgets appear on every screen in a collection, which is perfect for keeping timers, reminders, or instructions visible as you switch between lesson slides. This ensures a seamless learning experience—no need to re-add the same widget multiple times!

example:

If your lesson has 4 different parts, pin your timetable, a clock, and calendar on the first screen and they will appear on all subsequent screens.

5: Customize student pairing for group work

Effective collaboration often begins with strategic pairing. The Group maker tool isn’t just random—it allows you to strategically pair students based on classroom dynamics. Exclude certain combinations or pre-select strategic pairings to create balanced groups. This ensures that group work is productive, fair, and well-structured for every activity.

tip:

Head over to the student settings in any name list, or visit our help center for more details.

note:

Running short on time? Use automated suggested lists including letters and numbers to quickly use the widget without a name list.

6: Instantly resize text for a clean look

Resizing text may not sound revolutionary, but knowing this tip about our oldest and most popular widget is vital. If you are not happy with how much space is around the text in the widget, head to the widget options and click ‘Resize to fit’ and voila! Your text widget now displays all of your text without the additional spacing.

7: Set the right screen aspect ratio for your display

Many of our users create their screens on their computers which are then projected onto a bigger screen (either an interactive whiteboard or a projector) for students to see. If your Classroomscreen looks great on your computer but misaligned on a projector, it's an aspect ratio issue. We offer three different screen aspect ratio options; 4:3, 16:9, and fill screen.

tip:

If this has happened to you, or if you are prepping screens in advance, make sure to pick one of the fixed aspect ratios like 4:3 or 16:9. Read more about this in our help center article.

8: Personalize your Classroomscreen with custom themes

Did you know you can create your own color themes in Classroomscreen Pro? You can customize widget colors and text for a unique look. Pro users can save up to 100 different color themes, so you can truly prepare for every season and classroom activity. A great way to make your screens truly your own!

9: Automate background changes with slideshows

This relatively new gem is a super fun one, as it enables you to set up scheduled backgrounds on rotation. If you have the same screen all day, why not change the background automatically every hour to help your day flow? Explore this exclusive Pro feature in the settings of the Background widget, where you can select your favorite images or patterns to be used in your slideshow.

tip:
