Help students master common English verb + noun and verb + preposition combinations with this fun and interactive tic-tac-toe game. Designed for intermediate ESL learners, this activity boosts speaking fluency, reinforces grammar, and builds confidence through structured output and friendly competition.
How it works
- Divide students into two teams using the Group maker widget.
- A student selects a box with a phrase (e.g., “my homework”).
- They choose the correct verb (e.g., “tell”) to form the collocation (“tell someone a story”). The student uses the collocation in a full sentence.
- If the sentence is correct, their team claims the square. The first team to get three squares in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins!
