How our classroom random group generator works
Our classroom group generator allows you to create groups for classroom activities quickly and efficiently. Simply select a student name list or enter them manually via the settings to get started. If you are teaching the same group of students regularly, we recommend getting an account so that you can save up to three student lists for free.
From the widget settings, you can easily customize your groups by selecting the desired number of students per group and adjusting individual student selections as needed. Whether you're looking for a group generator for teachers, a partner generator for classroom activities, or a grouping students app, this tool makes classroom organization effortless.
Creating and using a group generator in your classroom
Once you've configured your settings, make groups for classroom activities as simple as clicking a button. You'll receive a visual breakdown of how students are allocated into each group, making it easy to ensure a balanced distribution.
Features of our classroom Group maker:
- Change the group name and color by clicking on the group you wish to edit.
- Click on the 'rotate groups' button in the bottom right-hand corner to move students who are in group 1 to group 2, and so on depending on how many groups you've created.
- Auto-generated name feature to quickly assign themed names or numbered lists (1-30) with one click.
How to optimize your group pairings
After making a couple of groups, there are many ways within which you can improve, adjust and perfect your groups to best suit your teaching.
Saving groups
While it is not currently possible to save created groups, you can save your screens containing the activated Group maker widget to keep your groups intact. You can read more about saving screens here.
Prevent certain students from working together
Are there certain students you would prefer to keep apart? No worries! You can prevent certain combinations through clicking 'widget settings', then 'edit my name lists'. Once in your saved name lists, you can then select each student individually and select in their settings which students should be prioritized or prevented in the Group maker widget.
Moving students to other groups
To move students to other groups without reshuffling all groups, simply drag and drop students into different groups using your cursor.
Adjusting the number of groups
To change the number of groups, go to the widget settings and adjust the scale bar under the section labelled 'Number of groups'. In the settings, you can also remove or add students in the dropdown menu labelled 'Selected students'.
How to use a group maker for teachers
From facilitating classroom groups for projects and discussions to fostering peer learning and teamwork, this tool allows you to seamlessly divide students into groups online for any activity.
Whether it's assigning seats for better classroom management, organizing teams for quizzes, or ensuring students work with new peers, our group maker for teachers enhances classroom dynamics and creates a supportive learning environment.
