Making student groups, or selecting a student, in Classroomscreen is a breeze with our Name lists - just add your class and you can reuse the same list again and again using our Group maker and Randomizer widgets.
Name lists are pre-created, stored lists of student names that can be accessed either through relevant widgets or your Dashboard. This feature is available for everyone with an account - Basic or Pro - and is one of our biggest time-saving features.
note:
With a Basic account, you can save three name lists and with a Pro account, you can save up to 100 lists!
There are two ways to make new name lists - either locally when in a specific widget, or through your Dashboard.
From the widget
When in the widget settings for either the Randomizer or the Group maker, you can 'Create a local list' which will only be available for that specific widget, or select from one of your pre-made lists.
tip:
If you wish to create a list you can use in all your screens, select 'Edit my lists' to head to the Dashboard.
From the Dashboard
Step 1. Select 'Name lists' in the top left-hand corner.
Step 2. Click the purple '+' button to create your list - you can paste information from an external source or enter in the names manually.
note:
Make sure you have entered one name per line to avoid application errors.
Step 3. When all students have been entered, press the 'Create' button to save the list.
If you use a specific list often, we recommend that you 'star' it. Click the options button next to the title and then choose 'Set as default' (or click it again to deselect). Now, the widgets that use name lists will automatically select the default list when the widget is launched.
It is possible to do some tweaking behind the scenes to manage combinations of students. Do some of your students really not work well together, or do you need specific students always in the same group? Just head to the Dashboard, click on the options button next to any student's name, and then choose 'Edit student'. You'll then enter the student settings pop-up, where you can make the necessary exclusitons or combinations.
Students chosen under 'Prevent combinations' will never be paired up, and those chosen under 'Priority pairing' will always be matched up. These choices will not appear on the widget, so your students will never know. Sneaky, right?
Of course! You can even add emojis, like in our Emoji story generator template! Do you have regular questions you ask the class, or do you want to practice numeracy?
